random acts of kindness

Sorry this is an "aw I'm a mum" post.  Sometimes my kids stun me with how kind they are to each other.  I honestly have to say that we've had very little sibling rivalry here, despite their enormous differences - or maybe because of them.

My daughter has a bit of a cold and is feeling under the weather.  Tough mum that I am, the music practice carries on.  And the tidying up of stands and chairs and instrument after practice.  But she didn't have the umpf.  So I insist.  Her lovely brother takes over.  "mum, stop it, I'll do it for her, she's not feeling great" and he tidies it all up.

Last week he had a sponsored readathon.  So my husband and I chipped in based on minutes read. She looked at the form and said "Spogo (her name for him), shall I also sponsor you?  But I can't afford per minute, can it be $SG per day?"  He was delighted, more than our amounts, the fact that she went and got her pocket money out her money box to sponsor him made his day.

On Saturday she was too ill to take part in the swimathon, so she sponsored him instead.  Again, he declared to me this afternoon.  I'm feeling bad because she's using up her pocket money for me.  But, he added, if she ever needs anything from me, all my money is for her.

Aw.  Doesn't that just make you happy?

In the very competitive, corporate that we live in where people backstab and step on top of one another to climb up the greasy pole, it's always nice to be reminded that there is still genuine kindness and compassion in this world. Thanks for your post.
