lack of focus

Singularly busy, been to Singapore.  It will be ok.  Trying to do everything and anything as if the world is about to stop. But it is all interesting.

Went to a lecture by Nick Danziger last night.  Phenomenal.  Note to self. Let go of kids. Kids who travel to Paris on their own without money or a passport aged 13 turn out ok.  Better than ok in fact.  They become human. Really human.

And to give the head's up to my readers, the RGS has a fantastic series of authors who've written books about China coming up in March.  Jonathan Watts (When a billion Chinese jump), Peter Hessler (River town, driving in China etc), Leslie Chang (Factory Girls), Tim Mackintosh-Smith (Travels with a Tangerine).

I was taken to task by the friend who accompanied me to the Danziger lecture.  You have to finish your studies.  You're being foolish. You're lacking focus. Why are you trying to do all these things. Just concentrate for a few months and get it done.    She's right.  And wrong.  I'm bored with the Chinese. I want to hear about other people's lives.  I want to hear about passion and mavericks and out of the box thinkers and travellers.  I want perspectives other than closeted over protective parents. I want to be near people who have lived on the edge and beyond.
